RAFTER AND FROGS

This fountain is located in the city’s Old Town Market Square and is from a legend that frogs once invaded Toruń and got everywhere, causing huge problems for the residents. A reward was offered for their removal, but despite many attempts, no-one was successful in getting rid of the frogs. This was until a rafter came to Toruń and he played an out of tune violin, which succeeded in getting the frogs to follow him out of the city. It’s now a tradition to stroke one of the frogs on the fountain to get good luck.

The fountain is always freely accessible.
