NEW TOWN MARKET SQUARE

Address: Rynek Nowomiejski, 87-100

There might not be quite the sense of history to the New Town Market Square (Rynek Nowomiejski Miasta Toruńia) as compared to the Old Town Market Square, but it’s still a heritage site which is worth a visit. At the centre of the market is an evangelical church which was constructed during the nineteenth century, but which is no longer used for religious purposes. This church was built on the foundations, which still remain, of the New Town Hall, which was in use between 1303 and 1818.

There is an inn on the square, Pod Modrym Fartuchem, which has been trading since 1489 and is one of the oldest drinking establishments in Poland. Since 1961, all of the frontages of the properties around the square have been protected in a bid to retain the historic feel of the area.

The square is always freely accessible.
