This museum is located within a tenement house and tells the story of travellers and exploration, with the bulk of the collection having been donated by the explorer Tony Halik. Halik was born in Toruń in 1921 and during the Second World War he was forced to join the Luftwaffe, but he defected to the French Resistance in 1944. After the conflict, Halik made television programmes about his adventures and expeditions around the world.
The museum has a number of items that belonged to Halik, as well as purchases that he made on his travels and some interesting maps. There are also displays about other explorers throughout history, with an inspirational feel to the museum because of the adventures that travellers have experienced.
There is an admission charge of 12zl for adults and 9zl for concessions, with no entry fee on Wednesdays. The museum is closed on Mondays and opens at 10.00 on Tuesdays to Sundays, closing at 18.00 between May and September, and at 16.00 between October and April.
